How to create / add favicon in wordpress

There are number of ways you can create a favicon. This is easiest and one of my favorite.

First download the software from the link below:

https://www.sibcode.com/downloads/junior-icon-editor.exe

The above link is a free icon editor you can download and create or edit unlimited number of icons you want!.

Always choose 32×32 or 16×16 for creating favicon. The picture below showing the startup screen of the Junior icon editor:

After you choose the size you want create the icon as you wish!. See the example of my favicon design below:

Don’t scare to see the big big dots. It will be fine in 32×32. you can see the preview at the right side bar of the Junior Icon Editor.

After you create your favorite “favicon”. Save it and name it “favicon.ico”. Note: Extension will create itself. Don’t need to give “.ico” at the end.

Now come to WORDPRESS:

Changing favicon is very simple in wordpress. All you need to do is open up the Appearance and click the Editor at the Left hand side bar of WordPress Admin Panel.

Then click the (header.php) file and open it for editing!. This will be in the Right hand side!

Search for the below line:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_directory'); ?>/favicon.ico" />

If it is not there just copy and paste this line in “header.php”. Click UPDATE to save the file.

Now Upload the your Favicon using FTP:

After this step, Open up your FTP Client (I’m using Filezilla).  Go to the Root folder of WordPress

Go to =>wp-admin -> wp-content -> themes ->your_theme (eg. motion I’m using)

Upload your favicon in your theme.  That’s it easy!
